DISC-LOCK announced that its patented Safety Wheel Nut and improved Locking Lug Nut for Trucks would be tested live in front of all attendees at the mid America Trucking show March 22-24 2007 www.truckingshow.com at Booth 7702

Demonstrations on the Disc-Lock stand using a Junker Vibration machine shows how a standard two-piece wheel nut (Lug Nut) can be shaken loose in less than one minute by means of a Junker vibration test machine, while the Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nut remains secure.

The improved 2007 safety wheel nut version Disc-Lock Safety Wheel Nut has been strengthened considerably to overcome excessive over-torquing caused by air-gun abuse on wheel nuts.  In addition, the height of the middle hexagon-flanged washer on the wheel nut has been increased to give better socket engagement.

Since 2006 the Safety wheel nut has been RoHS compliant with an environmentally friendly anti corrosion coating. The coating used is from GEOMET â, which is water based and VOC compliant compromised of overlapping zinc and aluminum in an organic binder.  The new environmentally safe coated Wheel lock nut can then withstand salt spray tests of 720 hours.

The vibration and shockproof wheel nut is used for commercial trucks, trailers and buses It is a very affordable solution designed to eliminate wheel loss that cause severe accidents that are often fatal which are very expensive to owner and operators.

 About Junker vibration machine tests

The Junker vibration machine is named after its designer Gerhard Junker whose theories are based in part on the so-called “long-form torque equation” relating the torque applied to a fastener to the frictional and elastic reactions to that torque.

The Junker vibration machine works as follows:  an eccentric cam generates a controllable amount of transverse displacement (vibration) on the joint under test.  A load cell measures the actual clamping force exerted in the joint.  One can determine the relationship between residual preload in the fastener under test and external vibratory forces created by the test machine as a function of time.
